Sourcing Social Responsibility
Conduct A Dual Audit Process
The number one violation of ethical footwear factory conditions is underage child labor, and it’s also not news that auditor corruption is commonplace.
When we work with third-party footwear manufacturers, we conduct our own audit in addition to the external audits. We scrutinize records for hourly wages, hiring methods and personnel information to ensure no one is violating human rights compliance regulations in their factory, from underage child labor to excessive work hours.
Vigilantly Secure Worker Safety
All it takes is one machine guard being down to result in a traumatic workplace accident – and this informs our safety vigilance in a big way.
At Mercury, we take every stride to make sure our third-party manufacturers, and our own factory, uphold all work safety rules and regulations. We also personally visit these factories for a walk-through to carefully identify every potential hazard on the site.
Ensure Ethical Living Conditions For Workers
In Asia-based footwear factories, such as China, workers live in dorms. Often their living conditions are unconscionable and labor freedoms nil.
We do not accept this. We work to audit for and promote living conditions that go beyond the overlay of regulatory requirements, with the belief that workers should have control over their personal destiny where they work. We audit for clean quarters, wholesome food services and limited overtime.
